Solid-liquid extraction with solvent regeneration
Systems
Overview
In solid-liquid extraction or leaching, target substances in a solid raw material are leached by solvents. The process is mainly used for natural product extraction and leaching of ores. A high-efficient and total solid extraction is promoted by high surface areas and short diffusion methods for the solvent.
In a laboratory scale, Soxhlet-extractors are used for a continuous extraction of solids and the determination of the product quality, e.g. for amount of free fatty acids and impurifications.
In pilot scale units, the solid-liquid extraction is combined with a distillation unit to separate the target substance from the solvent.
Main Characteristics of Solid-Liquid Extraction
Along with hot Soxhlet extraction systems, Pfaudler also designs cold Soxhlet extractors for a fractionated separation. The Pfaudler Systems Group design is equipped with an intensive cooler with high operational reliability and effectiveness.
The extraction vessel with extraction sleeve is designed for a simple and fast loading and removing of the extraction sleeve and cleaning. The extractions sleeves are made of PTFE filter plates or glass sinter filters. The solid-liquid extraction units are designed to enable the reuse of extraction solvent, in order to reduce costs.
All Pfaudler’s units are manufactured in Borosilicate glass 3.3 material.
