Overview
Extraction Columns are used for liquid-liquid extraction, which is an important separation technology in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. The fields of application are the separation of azeotropic mixtures, of thermosensitive products, of mixtures with very high or very low boiling temperatures, where there are low amounts of target substance in carrier substance, and where a distillation is very complex.
Column Engineering Design
Pfaudler Systems Group provides agitated extraction columns from laboratory scale up to production scale. Pulsed and agitated-pulsed extraction systems are presented in a laboratory scale.
Pfaudler can offer a high-efficient and scale-up suitable design for an agitated extraction column with a free area of approximately 40% and up to 2,000 rpm developed. Due to the special design, very small column diameters of up to 30 mm are possible. In addition, the system highly efficient and requires only small quantities of extraction media. A very compact design, along with a downstream rectification, is possible. The characteristics of the agitated extraction column are ideal for use as teaching unit, as well as in laboratories and research centers.
Extraction systems for processing in light and heavy phases could be delivered together with feed, extract, and raffinate vessels with jacket or internal heater and, if necessary, a suitably sized heating/cooling system for tempering the jacketed column.
For dosing light and heavy phases in the column, coordinated dosage pumps with optional ratio control are used, as well as a calibrated through-flow quantity definition. The entire column is connectable to client’s own flue gas processing system.
Column Engineering Design
Pfaudler is able to manufacture and design shells through cost-efficient solutions using a combination of different materials: Borosilicate glass, stainless steel, and Hastelloy.
The agitators in the Borosilicate columns are designed in stainless steel and Hastelloy.
