Overview

Nutsch-filters and Druck-filters are intended for the separation of solid sediment from mother liquor or solvent under vacuum or pressure respectively. Target product can be both, sediment and liquid phase. Process can be held under heating or cooling and may also require inert atmosphere.

Operating principle and features you should pay attention to:

The operating principle is pretty simple. You need to create the pressure difference above the slurry as well as under it. Of course, pressure above the slurry should be higher, than below it. In case you want to create vacuum under the slurry (filter plate) you should use the nutsch-fliter. In case you want to create overpressure above the slurry (filter plate) you need to pick the druck-filter. Druck-filters can usually be used under vacuum as well.

Main advantages of nutsch-filters are:

1. Very good price-performance ratio
2. To perform the basic filtration only a vacuum pump is required

Possible disadvantages of nutsch-filters are:

1. It is impossible to create pressure drops higher than 1 atm, which doesn’t allow to reach high filtration speeds with finely dispersed sediments
2. It is difficult to perform the filtration of low boiling solvents, because they start to boil sometimes at 600-700mbaror even lower and flow straight to the vacuum pump

Main advantages of druck-filters are:

1. It is possible to obtain high pressure difference (depending on the materials the filter is made of it can be up to 10 bars), which results in much higher filtration speeds
2. You do not need a hermetically sealed receiver unlike for the nutsch-filter

Possible disadvantages of druck-filters are:

1. Due to the need for more resilient equipment and glass for these filters the initial investment is higher than for a ntusch-filter
2. You need to use a compressor to create an excess of pressure

If you plan to use nutsch- or druck-filters, it is important to keep in mind, that you can efficiently separate particles with the size of 1 micron or above.

In order to perform the replacement washing, a heating or cooling filter with jacketed body can be supplied, of course with overhead stirrer.

Filters with volume of 10l and more, can be equipped with lifting-/lowering-, as well as swinging and rotating mechanisms for a quick and easy discharging.
