Glass-lined reactors for the pharma industry: defining the next technology level!
Pfaudler’s extensive experience & reactor technologies were the keys to success for a project recently completed for a customer in the European pharma industry!
Highly customized BE type reactors have been manufactured with a 5-level Cryo-Lock® agitator fitted with Turbofoil X-Shape (TBX) turbines to meet the stringent requirements of the customer’s process.
This agitator configuration is the result of a process design by Pfaudler engineers using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software and based on customer process needs.
Pfaudler’s CFD capabilities offer the possibility to imagine and design solutions and then to show the results with demonstrative pictures and videos.
Technical information, such as flow velocities and directions, shear forces, local energy dissipation, mechanical power input, heat transfer coefficients, local pressure distribution, suspending possibilities are the most interesting CFD outputs, as well as flow animations.
Pfaudler Pharma Glass (PPG) was the perfect choice for these reactors. Its unequalled properties fit the demanding needs of pharma companies. These include outstanding corrosion resistance, easy to clean, no risk of heavy metal contamination and increased corrosion resistance in alkali environments, which is of high importance for efficient cleaning in place.
The interseal dry9000® technology was used for all agitator shaft sealings. Benefits such as Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) design, ease of cleaning and sterilization, no need for sealing supply system, no risk of product loss, due to sealing fluid contamination; and no need of cleaning or monitoring of supply system were the drivers for the customer’s decision to opt for the proven dry9000 technology.
With these highly customized reactors, Pfaudler has defined once again new technology levels for glass-lined reactors intended for the pharmaceutical industry.
