Beaver Tail Baffle
The beaver tail baffle is the most common baffle in glass-lined equipment. It is manufactured from a tube, pressed in the middle to achieve a flat surface. The baffling efficiency of a single beaver tail baffle is in the range of 0.5 compared to a “fully baffled” configuration with 4 wall baffles at 90 degrees.
Modern beaver tail baffles are flange mounted, i.e. one does not need to get into the vessel to fit them. They can be fitted with temperature- or corrosion-monitoring sensors and provide the functions described in the chapter above.
